OVERVIEW

For a recent job interview I was offered a 6-hour design challenge to solve a common problem: provide a way for a Real Estate agent to attract, secure, and keep track of current and new client leads.

CHALLENGES

  • 6-hour time frame

  • No previous research or preparation

MY ROLE

I did basic research, concepting, simple user flow, as well as lo- and high-fi mockup deliverables.

Joe’s internal notifications

This piece arose from a 6-hour design challenge.

The setup scenario for the challenge:

  • As a new agent, Joe is looking for an easy way to stay abreast of and follow up with

    his current leads.

  • Joe wants to be able to have visibility into his customer’s engagement on his agent

    website so that he can have a better understanding of their needs.

  • Joe wants to be sure to attract and secure new leads so that he can earn a

    commission when they move forward with purchasing a home.

I did some quick research into industry trends and what top competition websites were offering to get a sense for what was possible.

From there I roughed out some idea of what I felt would best solve the main problem: that is, creating an attractive modern web design with the most applicable tools immediately apparent to new visitors. With this, Joe could present a dependable, attractive face with the most useful and pertinent tools surfaced to the top.

For his CRM, I wanted to offer a robust system that would serve the main needs to keep track of, and in communication with, his clients.

These main focus points I figured could be divided into Contacts, Leads, Tasks, and Activity. Each of these would be searchable and actionable according to its content.

TAKEAWAYS

Despite the 6 hour time constraints, I was able to create an effective and appealing potential deliverable that precipitated an offer from the company.

Upon completion, I had:

  • Sketched out a rough outline of the agent-facing CRM system;

  • Created an effective and modern hi-fi website design to draw and retain clients;

  • Created a multi-page hi-fi mockup demonstrating the main points of an internal CRM system along with notifications

With more time, I would:

  • Love to test it!

  • Put it in front of a variety of potential leads/clients, as well as Real Estate officers to get feedback

  • Continue to flesh out ideas for future iterations.
